11 of the Best Voices in Hollywood

These guys were born to narrate!

Some actors are just born to narrate or provide their voices to characters in animation. Just imagine the calming tones of Morgan Freeman or John Hurt narrating your favourite story!

There are so many voice actors I could have placed in this list like Tom Kenny, Steven Blum, Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Billy West, but I wanted to focus on actors who’s main job is acting on the big screen, but also lend their familiar tones to animation and documentaries.

There’s a few people I wanted to put in this list such as Ving Rhames, Jeremy irons, Vin Diesel and Alan Rickman, but although they all have awesome voices they haven’t done much voice only work.

So, in no particular order…

Wow! The actual voice of Darth Vader. You can’t get any better than that! Although Jones wasn’t even credited for the original releases of Star Wars Episodes IV & V, though he later would be credited for the first film in its 1997 “Special Edition” re-release. As he explained in a 2008 interview:

James says “When Linda Blair did the girl in The Exorcist, they hired Mercedes McCambridge to do the voice of the devil coming out of her. And there was controversy as to whether Mercedes should get credit. I was one who thought no, she was just special effects. So when it came to Darth Vader, I said, no, I’m just special effects. But it became so identified that by the third one, I thought, OK I’ll let them put my name on it”

He’s been acting in films, television and on stage for over 60 years and has become known as “one of America’s most distinguished and versatile” actors and “one of the greatest actors in American history.”

Although un-credited,again Jones’ voice is possibly heard as Vader at the conclusion of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith (2005). When specifically asked whether he had supplied the voice, possibly from a previous recording, Jones told Newsday: “You’d have to ask Lucas about that. I don’t know.”
