“Cakes!” What do you think of when you hear this word?
A fluffy baked (usually) round shape of sweet tasting goodness? Maybe decorated with fruit, cream and ribbons and enjoyed best with afternoon tea.
Cakes, obviously are not a modern-day creation, and have been around since the Ancient Greek and Roman times. Although they were made a little different back then. The word “cake” originates from the Norse word “kaka” as you see the Vikings really liked their cake!
Today, bakers and confectioners pull out all the stops and show off their skills and creativity in the bakery. People have all kinds of weird and wonderful ideas and requests on the cake they want for whatever special occasion.
From giant octopus cakes to Star Wars cakes some of these designs are truly inspired and just too good to eat!
