Remember those old competitions where you had to ‘spot the ball’?
They would use a photo of a football match and the ball had been removed from the image. It was up to us to take a guess where we thought the ball would be. Well, I think we could improve on that by making a few alterations. Why not have a go at a new game called ‘Spot the Sniper’?
This series of photography by German artist Simon Menner titled ‘Camouflage‘ demonstrates the true art of blending into your surroundings. “I had the very friendly support by the German Army who made this series possible by providing me with two of their snipers and a whole day of time” says Menner. “I really like this idea of going to extremes. I like to have these absolute points and then you can always go back to something that is not extreme and see the relationship.”
It’s an ultimate game of hide and seek, that gives even the ‘Predator’ a run for his money! Even if you have perfect 20/20 vision, you will see how unreliable our eyes can actually be.
“I’m playing with this notion that you always have to be afraid of something that is not visible.” says Menner.
If you look very carefully at each image, you will see somewhere lurking in the background a hidden sniper who is aiming right at the camera and aiming right at you. See if you can spot them. Click on the Reveal button to see if you are right.
