Thanks to the Internet, new words are invented all the time and one of the easiest ways to create a brand new one is by mashing up two existing words and sounds together (portmanteaus), although it may sound like a lazy method these words can actually be quite brilliant.
Take for example ‘Texpectation‘ – (n) the anticipation felt when waiting for a response to a text.
The English language has been evolving for centuries and with all these new words being created on a daily basis official dictionaries might not be able to keep up with the pace. The Oxford Dictionary is updated from time to time with lots of new modern words, but they do have to go through a lengthy process of being approved first.
Urbandictionary.com on the other hand is updated all the time with modern-day slang and allows anyone to add their own. Take a look at some of these words below and maybe you can start using them in everyday conversation!
