It’s easy to think that what you are looking at is a very detailed model toy village, but in actual fact what you are actually looking at is a rather amazing photography technique called tilt-shift.
How is the tilt-shift effect produced?
Well, first you will need a tilt-shift lenses which produces the effect optically. “Tilt–shift” encompasses two different types of movements: the rotating of the lens plane relative to the image plane, called tilt, and the movement of the lens parallel to the image plane, which is called the shift.
Tilt is used to control the orientation of the plane of focus (PoF), and hence the part of an image that appears sharp thus giving the a landscape image a toy village appearance. The Shift is used to adjust the position of the subject in the image area without having to move the camera back.
