Many of us have grown up with Lego in our childhoods, and if you have children of your own, then you are still probably treading on blocks that are scattered around the house as an adult!
The Lego Group was founded in 1932 by Danish inventor Ole Kirk Christiansen. Originally the company manufactured wooden play items, but everything changed in 1949 when they produced their first plastic interlocking blocks. As of 2013, around 560 billion Lego parts had been produced and in 2014 the family run business became the largest toy company in the world, finally overtaking the US toy giant Mattel.
Today, Lego not only manufacture Lego sets and models, but also video games, animated tv series’, movies and let’s not forget those amazing theme parks!
The word Lego is actually derived from the Danish words “leg godt”, meaning “play well.”
Let us have a look at some beautiful Lego creations. As you can see, nowadays it’s easy to make Lego creations of anything, even internet memes (see last image)!
