Casting Polaroids of Celebrities at the Start of Their Careers

For once they look like normal everyday folk and not the perfectly airbushed and immaculate specimens we are used to seeing.

Behold this recently found collection of old Polaroids, which some of them belonged to Mali Finn, a famous movie casting director, Richard Corman and director John Waters.

Finn was responsible for making the careers of so many famous actors over the decades.

These photos give us a glimpse of a whole bunch of those Hollywood A-listers and also photos of a few pop stars and Steve Jobs at the start of their careers. For once they look like normal everyday folk and not the perfectly airbrushed and immaculate specimens we are used to seeing.

Angelina Jolie

Leonardo DiCaprio

#Polaroid #189: #tbt #LeoDiCaprio when he still had his #90s #bowlcut, circa #RomeoandJuliet. #PatrickMcMullan recalls walking out of a #NicoleMiller show during that era and running into Leo and his friends: “I was friendly with them because we saw each other out all the time. I was a little more savvy to the scene, I guess, so I could help them find the good parties. I said, ‘Hey, #LizTilberis, the editor of #HarpersBazaar, is having a party down at #Indochine. Why don’t you guys come? All the cute #models are gonna be there.’ They were each just starting to become pretty well-known, but at that point I could still just say, ‘Come with.’ Then we couldn’t get a cab. We’re waiting and waiting, and I see a limo and I said, ‘Let me try something’ — and I hailed a big white limousine. I remember Leo saying [incredulously], ‘You can do that?’ I said, ‘You can always try.’ So it stopped, and for $50 or whatever, the driver took us all to Indochine. I paid for the limo because I think I had more money than any of them at the point. Maybe now he’ll pick me up in a #limo some day.”

Benicio Del Toro

#Tbt (circa ’95) in honor of #BeniciodelToro’s 48th birthday. The actor has said of that point in his life, “I see #UsualSuspects (1995) as the time where I was, quote unquote, discovered. It took me six, seven years to get to that place. And it was not easy. You’re fighting with people who doubt you and your choice of career. There are a lot of doubts– and you have to stay focused with what you want. I never put a time limit on me being successful or not. I just cared about the work as an actor. But it wasn’t easy because there were a lot of ups and downs. I don’t know if you know much about baseball, but baseball is the game of failure. You deal with failure– strike, strike, strike– all the time. Acting is like that. You have to have a very thick skin in a way– your hair is too dark, you’re too ugly for the part, your audition wasn’t good.” ? #MaliFinn
