The DeLorean Motor Company which was originally founded in 1975 by John DeLorean is best known for the only car model they produced – the ‘DMC-12’.
The car has a devoted cult following all thanks to its appearance in the Back to the Future trilogy. The car itself has a distinctive stainless steel finish and iconic gull-wing doors. The car and company had a very turbulent history which ended up in bankruptcy and in a desperate attempt to raise funds for his company John DeLorean even attempted to traffick cocaine (yes, cocaine!) to fund his failing car company!
After 30 years a large number of the original cars are still on the road and an estimated 6,500 cars surviving out of just over 9,000 built. A lot of the owners try to keep faithful to the original look of the car, but then there are some owners that want to customize and put their creative stamp on this iconic automobile.
