I’d say I’ve lived with depression most of my life. I don’t like to admit it, but I am today. It’s dark in there, it’s a terrifying and it’s a sad and lonely place to find yourself.
There’s a certain stigma attached to depression because it’s a mental illness. It’s an invisible illness that people cannot see. If you tell people you have depression, they may think you are a little bit mad or a little bit crazy. It’s probably why most people who suffer with this illness keep it quiet. For some people, they do not understand depression at all. They make stupid remarks like “Just snap out of it” or “You’ll get over it.” If only it was that simple!
This powerful collection of art is a showcase of what it’s like to live with depression by a selection of amazing artists who also suffer with the illness.
If you live with depression then you know how hard it is. It’s an illness that can be treated and if you think or know that you are suffering. Do not suffer in silence. Do not ignore it. Get help.
